Next year we’re having a double display of our annual challenge quilts. Your guild board made a decision to combine our traditional challenge with the display at Sisters and our own quilt show. This will make a cohesive and impressive display of quilts at both locations and a great opportunity to have a quilt shown at a major national quilt show, SOQS!
The theme that the guild membership voted on was ‘Variations on a Block – Log Cabin’.
Here’s how it will work.
- Choose a design which contains at least 25% of an identifiable log cabin block. It can be traditional, wonky, or otherwise, as long as it’s basic construction is log cabin-like.
- The entire quilt must be a minimum of 36” wide (and at least 30” long) or 144” around the edges and no more than 240” all around.
- The quilt must be new work, completed in 2013 or 2014.
- For the Guild Challenge the quilt must be completed by the June meeting to present to the guild for challenge voting. Quilts not complete by this date may still be entered into the SOQS in July and shown at the MBQG show in August and be eligible for viewers choice voting there.
- The Guild Challenge, for clarification, is the same theme, Log Cabin variations and construction and dating requirements. Quilts not measuring at least 36” wide may not be accepted by SOQS.
- All procedures and practices of the Guild Challenge remain as traditionally experienced in addition to the display at Sisters.
- The Guild Challenge will proceed with the display at the June meeting with the maker’s identity not displayed prior to the membership vote for best piecing, best applique, best interpretation of theme, best use of color, etc.
- The Guild Challenge quilts will be displayed at our quilt show in August where viewers can vote for their favorite.
- All requirements by the SOQS are the responsibility of the quilt maker including by not limited to registration, delivery and pickup, size requirements and liability.
We would like about 20 quilts for Sisters. We’ll show some design ideas at future meetings too.
