Welcome to Boutique Patterns and Tutorials. What is the Boutique? Every August MBQG hosts the Quilt Show in the Park. A big part of the show, and a huge money maker for the Guild, is the Boutique. Every year we receive donations of crafted items that we price and sell.

Successful items in the past have been table runners and placemats, potholders, microwave cozies, baskets, purses, dog collars. This year we would like to encourage members to make ANY kind of fiber art project, not just sewing. We have lots of knitters and crocheters out there. Let’s get creative.

Kraft-Tex Regular size Composition Book Cover Directions.(written by Eileen Heber):

Material:

9.75"x7.5" composition book (sold in Office Supply stores) 10.25" x 20" piece of Kraft-Tex material (sold in Fabric Stores). Decorate with fabric or additional Kraft-Tex

About Kraft-Tex : Once you stitch anywhere on Kraft-Tex it will leave a hole. So audition your ideas and placement ahead of stitching in place.

Directions:

Measure in 2.25" on each end of the Kraft-Tex to create two fold lines for the flaps.

Fold the piece in half to create the spine of the cover. Lay open Kraft-Tex to add decorations within the spine and the flaps I put a little glue on the back side of my fabric so it would stay in place when I stitched the fabric to the Kraft-Tex. For a cleaner look, I pulled the threads from the front to the back and weaved the thread under the stitched line. Final step is Fold flaps in and stitch top and bottom edge using a quarter inch seam allowance. Insert composition book.

Hospital Buddy with hospital gown:

Add a little comfort to a child who is in the hospital with a look alike doll that they can hug.

The pattern makes a 14” doll from muslin that is stuffed with leftover batting or fiber fill. The pattern is on a 11x17 piece of paper and most people do not stock that size of paper. So, you can pick up a copy or we can mail it out . The instructions for the doll are on the pattern. Personalize your doll or keep detail simple.( depending on your artistic talent). The hospital gown is very simple to make. I made one pattern to be used for the front and back. You can cut both by placing the pattern on the fold. The back side will need to be cut on the center line. Sew shoulders and side seams with a ¼ “ seam allowance. Then hem the arms , the back center, plus the hem lines by folding under ¼” press . Then tuck raw edge in and stitch down. OR you can do a second fold and stitch down. Your choice. The neckline is finished with ¼” bias tape double fold . I stitched the single layer to the front and pulled the remaining tape to the back and hand stitched for a cleaner look. I used 18” tape to include the neckline and ties (machine stitch ties).
